DIY Relaxing Lavender Spray

So I’ve still been busy obsessing over sleep so this post is a continuation of my two previous posts, Importance of Sleep and 4 Tips to Sleep Well.

Did you know that aromatics can play a large role in helping to relax your mind before bed? Research has found that the scent of lavender can have a calming and sedative effect on a person.

While it can have varying effects on people, it has been found in multiple studies to have a slight to moderate effect on inducing sleepiness, even in those with insomnia and stress-related sleep issues.

Earlier this summer I collected fresh lavender at a local farm and have been using it around the house in various culinary purposes. When I was out in L.A. however, my lovely roommate, Kait, used a lavender spray as a part of her evening routine before bed. From that I was inspired to create my own relaxing evening routine. While recently the evenings have been a bit hectic, I’ve been enjoying taking at least a little bit of time to slow down before bed. As a part of my “slow down process”, I’ve been spritzing the pillow with my homemade lavender spray.

While I have used other lavender essential oils in the past, when I first tried Rocky Mountain Oils, just based on the scent alone, I could immediately tell a difference in quality. Later I learned that they are 100% S.A.A.F.E. Guaranteed (Satisfaction Guaranteed, Authentic, GC/MS Analysis, Free of Adulterants and Effective and Pure) with a 90 day return policy. The GC/MS Testing (which stands for Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry) is used to test the exact breakdown of each essential oil to test for quality and purity. Each batch is individually stamped so that you can input it for the exact results that have been tested by a 3rd party. As someone who appreciates quality products, but also proper testing of said quality, there’s no better way to go, especially when you are looking at products for direct skin application!

DIY Relaxing Lavender Spray

4oz Water (1/2 Cup)
25 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
Small Spray Bottle

In a measuring cup, add the lavender essential oil and carefully pour into the spray bottle. Give it a little shake before each use. If you have leftover that doesn’t fit, store it in a glass lidded container away from the sun.

Lavender oil is also good for skin issues and irritations including sunburns, minor kitchen burns and bug bites so consider keeping it around to spray directly on the skin!
